Stage One Thinking Can Be Dangerous To Your Health
Economist and philosopher Thomas Sowell describes Stage One thinking. The girl wants all the ice cream she can eat, forgetting that last time she did this she threw up all over the car. The boy wants to hit a friend who irritated him, not understanding that this will lose him a friend and possibly result in a harder punch in return.
Democrats shower horrible epithets on Trump: Nazi, fascist, Hitler, anti-Semite, racist, xenophobe, danger to democracy, threat to the Constitution, dictator, election denier, whatever. If they could get away with calling him a space alien from the planet Mongo, they would.

Then they pretend shock and disbelief when fanatics take shots at Trump and come within 1 to 2 centimeters of blowing his brains out over the two front rows. That is, some pretend shock. Others express undisguised sadness that Trump survived.
But all this is childlike Stage One thinking. If Trump is assassinated, what then? Democrats will live peaceful, happy lives? Leftists will be free to pursue their dreams of a socialist tyranny without being obstructed? Kamala and Tim will go around in safety and ease? Local leftist politicians will encounter no violent protests?
No, Dr. Sowell was correct, as usual. Stage One thinking leads to major and sometimes catastrophic mistakes. The girl throwing up in the car, and the boy getting smacked, have time to learn to act more wisely in the future. We have no such time. If we are not careful, we may not even have a future.
Violent rhetoric, and now actual violence, will surely be met by counter-violence. That is how a great and good nation commits suicide, and many decent people die needlessly. Let us apply the brakes and turn the steering wheel, before fanatical idiots drive us over a cliff.
