What Is The End Point, For Caitlin Clark And For Trump?
What Is The End Point, For Caitlin Clark And For Trump?
Murphy's Law of Success: If at first you don't succeed, maybe you should try doing something else. Maybe what you are trying to do is wrong for you, or just plain wrong.
• Caitlin Clark whacked on side of head, grabs ear. Refs do not call foul, while commentator says she did not see contact. Clark accused of "flopping" – feigning injury. But left ear canal shows blood. Ruptured eardrum diagnosed later. Poking an eardrum with a q-tip is one thing. But do you know how hard you have to be hit, either with blow to head or an explosion, to rupture an eardrum? Clark needed a concussion protocol, not just time on the bench.
• Clark poked in eye with long fingernail by opponent claiming to be trying to block shot. Refs do not call foul. A foul need not be intentional to be a foul. Apparently no serious injury, but a black eye nonetheless. Note fingernail scratch on upper lid. Lucky she blinked or she would have gotten a corneal abrasion, worn a patch, not played for weeks. Breaking news: Hard to shoot accurately with one eye.
So what is the end point for Caitlin Clark? Either she walks off the court and leaves the WNBA as what it was, almost viewer-less. Or she sustains an injury that is career ending and possibly dangerous. Sad to say, that's how it looks.
Same for Donald Trump. Two assassination attempts in a short time were not enough. The second would-be assassin writes a letter apologizing for his failure, and offering cash to anyone who succeeds. But the government publishes the letter, which cannot fail to stimulate copy cats. The end point is all too obvious to anyone with an IQ above that of cabbage: Trump out of the picture. Sad to say, that's how it looks.
The ubiquitous Mr. Murphy was right. Maybe we should stop things before the end points are reached, not after. Maybe that is our duty.
